Congratulations to Mayall Road owner of rossette winner at Brockwell Park Dog Show! Here’s a recent BBC radio interview on what a friendly place Mayall Road is. Many thanks to Mike VG for recording it for us. Some very sad news for the street, 144 Mayall Road (Startx and friends) have been served a eviction notice, the date is yet to be confirmed. This will be a major blow to the street and Startx has told me that they will fight this and have asked for some support from the street. With this in mind I am suggesting that Monday’s Street Party Meeting be held at 144 Mayall Road 8pm. After the meeting would be a good time for those there to discuss with Startx what the plan of attack will be. Please try and turn up to this meeting and see what we can all do to support their cause. Continue reading Sad news for the street…
Hot off the press, this is a great video from Birdie and Susie of last year’s street party. Brought me right back! The Five Parks Walk will take place on Sunday 9th May this year, starting at 10.00 a.m. at Brockwell Hall. You are encouraged to come along and join this very pleasant event, all proceeds support the MAD for Brockwell Park summer programme. If you cannot join the walk, then donations are welcome!
If you have a couple of hours to spare, then can you assist with marshalling? Continue reading The Five Parks Walk
On May 30th the launch of the Brixton Biennale of Contemporary Art in Brixton Village Market. The mission of Ruskin Park Community Garden is: There will be a community hustings meeting at 7pm on Thursday 22 April in the Herne Hill Baptist Church on Half Moon Lane. Candidates standing in the Herne Hill, Thurlow Park and Village wards have been invited to answer your questions. More information on the Herne Hill Forum website at www.hernehillforum.org.uk. Thanks Hi All, You may not know me, I live down at 247 and run the mayallroad.co.uk website. I am more of a follower than a contributor to the conversation on the street but having attended the meeting held by Startx last night I feel compelled to write a brief note in support of those squatting in 144. If you know or have met Startx, you’re likely aware of the great things he did for last year’s street party and for his community initiatives like Cinema 144 and our street mailing list. While it’s easy to cast squatters in a negative light the reality is that Startx and his flatmates are occupying and maintaining a house that would otherwise be left derelict by Lambeth Living. The alternative is an empty house and a big hole in the fabric of our community. Several of us will be circulating a letter of support for people to sign, I hope you’ll join us in helping keep those in 144 a part of the street.

Just a quick note to thanks to those who were able to join in the BBQ yesterday. What an amazing day it was, we even had a mini unauthorized street closure (free of charge of course) to allow the children a bit of freedom to move around. A big thanks also to everyone who helped out and brought food and came to share in the many things the table had to offer. It was great to see so many different hands turning the lamb, even the kids had a turn. |
