Welcome to Mayall Road!

We are a street of approximately 200 residences and 150 children. Every year we celebrate our children with a street party in which everyone can participate and feel proud of their neighbourhood. Throughout the year there clubs, street cinemas, baby groups and much more, all of which is posted on this site and our mailing list. Come join us a this year's street party or wander down and take in Mayall Road's good vibes.

Street Party 2010

Hi everyone

A big welcome to any new residents to the street especially those who have just been born in the last year.  This seems like the perfect opportunity to start opening the channels of communication about up and coming events to do with the street.

January seems to have come and gone in a flash and it seems like February is doing the same. Therefore, we should start thinking about how we approach the Street Party this year. The date for The Big Lunch is July 18th 2010, which again falls during The Country Fair in Brockwell Park.

A couple of issues there, firstly the increased number of people in the area may prove a problem. Secondly, it is on a Sunday and personally I found it hard to go to work the next day after such an intense day of work and play.

It is suggested and I strongly agree that we hold The Mayall Road Street Party on Sunday August 29th. This sees a return of the street party to it’s traditional time when between 1994/5 until 2002, Mayall Road would hold a yearly street party. Photos and newspaper articles will at some stage be posted up in this website.

This is a normally a quiet time in the street when most people gravitate to Notting Hill for Carnival weekend. Also, the following day is a Bank Holiday Monday so we can have a day of relaxation. It would be good to get some feedback regarding the change of date.

I have recently been informed that it is almost certain that the Council will charge any street closures for any street parties (even for The Big Lunch street parties). This figure is very close to the £1000 mark. This of course impacts greatly on us, so we need to discuss how we approach this. I am exploring options but would love to pool together our collective resources.

There will be meeting at my house on Monday 15th March, 233 Mayall Road at 8pm and anyone is invited from the street to come and talk about the street party and any other issue you would like to raise.

It is a shame that the Council is not embracing the Street Party as a way of communities coming together and learning how to co-exist and work together. The street party has had an amazing impact on the street (in my view) and the benefits are still being felt now. Since the street party we have had many mini parties on the street green, which included a Xmas Party. There is also a parent and baby group that meets every Thursday morning. Lastly the book club meets the 1st Monday of the Month. Will try and post the time and place for these on the website for those who would like to access these.

Sorry about the very long post but I guess it’s been a while. If you have any questions please let me know.

Paul
