Brixton Biennale Bashment – Sunday May 30th 2010

On May 30th the launch of the Brixton Biennale of Contemporary Art in Brixton Village Market.  The Brixton Biennale is an ambitious cross-community contemporary art event, to be held every two years in diverse locations in Brixton. The inaugural Brixton Biennale is scheduled for summer 2011, and will run for three months. It is designed to host leading-edge visual art from all over the world, including that created here and renew Brixton’s reputation for contemporary art.

The Biennale is founded and directed by Bettie Morton and Kieran Crowder (www.brixtonbiennale.com <http://www.brixtonbiennale.com/>). It echoes and builds upon the successful Brixton Open series established in 2002 by the Bettie Morton Gallery, an event which quickly gained a reputation as one of London’s most dynamic art competitions.
During the Bashment evening we’ve made sure there’s lots going on: specially invited performance artists and food from the four corners of the globe prepared by Brixton’s wonderful new restaurants.
All profits from the Bashment will go towards commissioning and exhibiting a public work of art work entitled `The Brixton Biennale Bashment Commission’. Above all, the evening aims to share our excitement in the Biennale vision and all that it promises for the future.
We need your help and ask you to join us on May 30th for the start of our journey toward the inaugural Biennale in 2011.
Warmest wishes
Bettie Morton
